“The United States government has failed to stop China from stealing intellectual property”
– TIME magazine, quoting recently released congressional report
U.S. Companies’ intellectual property in the crosshairs
On November 19th, 2019, the Senate’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations released a bombshell report on Chinese espionage. It appears to confirm what many have long suspected: the Chinese government is carrying out industrial espionage on a massive scale, and no U.S. company is immune.
The damage is significant
Unfortunately, too many U.S. companies have seen their IP stolen to China, allowing foreign companies to leapfrog them from a technology perspective. This can cause critical damage to organizations of all sizes and is one of the biggest risks facing companies today.
Critical information
The biggest threat, unfortunately, is the insider threat. As in the recent cases that have come to light, it was company insiders that were stealing information and passing it on to foreign governments and corporations.
Of course, you have to trust employees – business would be impossible otherwise – but you do need to verify their activities.
If you find a rogue employee, you need to be able to obtain hard evidence against them.
Once an employee has begun taking data from an organization, it becomes critical to identify and stop this immediately, as well as gather the aforementioned evidence.
Data protection must be proactive, smart, and unpredictable enough so that it cannot be easily bypassed.
Organizations must know about the effects of a data breach even beyond company boundaries, and be able to gather enough forensic information even after data exfiltration has occurred.
What you can do
In order not to be the next victim, you have to implement effective data protection to protect company data today. If this is a priority for you – and it should be – then implement ITsMine’s Beyond DLP™️ now. All it takes is 1 hour, and your data is protected.
